PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steam reforming catalyst of hydrocarbon compounds excellent in sulfur poisoning resistance suitably used for especially converting sulfur-containing hydrocarbon compounds into a mixed gas containing carbon monoxide and hydrogen by steam reforming reaction.

SOLUTION: The steam reforming catalyst is constituted by supporting ruthenium and at least one kind of a metal selected from metals of the group IB and IIB on a support.
