<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an ester condensate or a thioester condensate, with a catalyst extremely stable to water and its decrease of activity is restrained even in the presence of the water generated by the progress of the condensation reaction, and its deactivation by deterioration with the water, etc., in air is not liable not only during the reaction but also during storage, capable of obtaining the ester and the thioester at a high yield using a small quantity of the catalyst, generating no reaction by-product, easy in separation and refining operation, and enabling steady supply of the products. <P>SOLUTION: In this manufacturing method, a carboxylic acid is reacted with an alcohol or a thioalcohol in the presence of a solvent and a catalyst which is a complex in which an amide ligand or an ether ligand having not less than 2 ether oxygen atoms is coordinated to a tetravalent hafnium compound or a complex in which an amide ligand or an ether ligand having not less than two ether oxygen atoms is coordinated to a tetravalent zirconium compound. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
