PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve detection sensitivity by an alternating magnetic field by magnetizing a metal object by the line of magnetic force by a magnetostatic field. SOLUTION: This sensor is a magnetic sensor for the metal detector for detecting metallic foreign matter in an object to be detected 8, comprises a sensor coil 10a constituted in such a way that a coil 13 is wound on an iron core 12 for generating the alternating magnetic field, and is structured in such a way that a permanent magnet 14 is incorporated into the iron core 12. The metallic foreign matter in the object to be detected 8 is magnetized by the line of magnetic force by the magnetostatic field of the permanent magnet 14 to improve the detection sensitivity by the alternating magnetic field of the coil 13.
