PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method used for producing a coated optical fiber.

SOLUTION: The coated optical fiber is produced by being coated with a primary coating material having a nonreactive coloring agent on an optical fiber and by being coated with a secondary coating material on the primary coating material. The primary coating material can be hardened before being coated with the secondary coating material or the primary and secondary coating materials can be hardened simultaneously and then the primary and secondary coated layers are formed. For example, as the secondary coated layer consists of a transparent material practically, the colored primary layer can be visible and then an inspection and/or a measurement can be performed. The coated optical fiber produced by the method is provided.
