PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image monitoring apparatus which can detect even an approaching object having a small movement in an input image, and, in a process of detecting a slow optical flow, can remove the optical flow erroneously detected to thereby prevent erroneous detection of the approaching object. SOLUTION: The apparatus includes a first optical flow detector for capturing an input image at time intervals ofδt and calculating an optical flow from images adjacent in a series of input images, and a second optical flow detector for calculating an optical flow from images spaced by (n) images in the input image series.
