PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass substrate for magnetic disk, a magnetic disk in which deposition of alkali metal salt on a surface of the substrate is reduced and deterioration of a medium characteristic is reduced even under environment of high temperature and high humidity holding easiness for vitrifying and a good forming characteristic, its manufacturing method, and a magnetic disk in which head floating quantity is good and errors are reduced. SOLUTION: This glass substrate for magnetic disk is obtained by applying solution including compound including zirconium on a surface of the glass substrate, performing heat processing of the applied glass substrate, and forming a layer including zirconium. Also, the magnetic disk is obtained by forming a desired layer for magnetic recording on the glass substrate for magnetic disk. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
