[Also in Division F2] An adjustable length link for a vehicle steering linkage comprises two rods 2, 4 having adjacent threaded ends 10, 12 of opposite hand, connected by a tubular member 14 having radially outwardly extending axial fluted portions 20, 22, 24 of U-shaped cross-section alternating with part-cylindrical wall portions 26, 28, 30 which are internally threaded at 32, 34, 36 to compressively engage the threaded ends 10, 12 of the rods. Each fluted portion is diametrically opposite a part-cylindrical portion. The member 14 is formed from a circular section tube, the threads 32, 34, 36 being formed after said forming operation, the thread diameter being slightly less than that of the rod ends 10, 12 to produce a fit which resists relative movement of the parts 2, 4, 14. |
