PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid drop emitter operated by a thermodynamic actuator which is operable at a high repeating frequency even in a multi-cycle use. SOLUTION: This thermal actuator comprises a cantilevered element extending from a base element and normally residing at a first position before activation, a first layer constructed of an electrically resistive material such as titanium aluminide, a coupling device that conducts electrical current serially between first and second resistor segments, and second layer constructed of a dielectric material having a low coefficient of thermal expansion and attached to the first layer. The thermal actuator is provided to be applied with an electrical voltage pulse resulting in a deflection of the cantilevered element to a second position, thereby causing an activation power density in the first and second resistor segments and a power density maximum within the coupling device.
