The invention is a system and method for publishing distributed applications accessible over a distributed network, which also allows integration between such distributed applications, without the need for a publishing computer to accept remote procedure calls from clients. In one embodiment, the invention includes a remote application computer (20) having a service agent (22), translation file (26), and published software application thereon. The service agent (22) provides the ability to identify the remote application computer (20) and communicate with the distributed network, the translation file (26) provides parameters to the service agent (22) for interpreting the data i/o format of the published application (24), and the published application monitors and reports on conditions of a building or structure's environmental, security, and occupancy status.
