<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolytic solution with a high overcharge prevention effect and excellent high temperature preservation characteristics and a lithium secondary battery using it with an improved safety at overcharge. <P>SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolytic solution is structured with at least a kind of chlorine atom substitution aromatic compound selected from a group consisting chlorine atom substitution biphenyl, chlorine atom substitution naphthalene, chlorine atom substitution fluorene, and chlorine atom substitution diphenylmethane, a compound containing a sulfonyl group, and other nonaqueous solvents as well as a lithium-containing electrolyte.
