PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To omit a useless focus adjustment processing and to shorten the time required for photographing preparation. SOLUTION: In an electronic camera for instance in which focusing is performed by performing climbing AF beforehand before a photographing start instruction by a photographing start instruction SW 121 is generated and focusing can be performed by scan AF after the photographing start instruction, in the case that focus adjustment is completed by the climbing AF before the photographing start instruction is generated, the scan AF after the photographing start instruction is not performed.
