Microarray carrier (A) comprises a substrate of polymer and/or copolymer having at least one surface with a static water contact angle (theta1), formed as an array of non-contacting regions with similar angle (theta2) where theta1 is at least 10degrees larger than theta2. The regions of theta2 carry optionally silanized silanol groups. An Independent claim is also included for methods for preparing (A).
