PURPOSE: A system and method for automatically searching and managing a picture phone book in a mobile phone is provided to photograph a person's face using the camera of a mobile phone, to store the photographed face image together with personal information in a database, and to compare a photographed face image with the image stored in the database if necessary. CONSTITUTION: If the user of a mobile phone photographs a person's face image, the photographed image is inputted to an image control part through an image processing part. The image processing part executes recognition processing for the inputted face image through a face recognition program(32). If recognition processing is completed, the image control part searches a database to compare whether the same information as the inputted face image exists(33). If the same information is found out, the image control part sends a signal to a mobile phone control part so that an LCD part can display whether the image and personal information are to be updated(34). If the user makes an updating operation through a key input part, the mobile phone control part inputs an update signal to the image control part. The image control part updates and stores the newly recognition-processed image information and personal information in the database and displays the updated face image information and personal information through the LCD part(36).
