<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light source unit capable of efficiently reconciling high brightness, and uniform illumination on the display surface of the transmission type liquid-crystal display device and to provide the transmission type liquid-crystal display device the light source unit. <P>SOLUTION: A transmission type display device 1 is composed of a liquid-crystal display unit 2 and a surface light source unit 3. The surface light source unit comprises a tubular light source 4, a lightguide member 5, an anisotropic scattering sheet 7, and two prism sheets 8 and 9. Related to the surface light source unit 3, for improved brightness, the condensing directions of the prism sheets 8 and 9 are directed toward the display unit side, while the extension directions of prism trains are made to cross each other and disposed on the front side of the anisotropic scattering sheet. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
