PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To resolve the problem that the time required to obtain an in-focus state on the wide angle side is made long because the final stop position precision of a focusing lens is determined by a high stop precision required on the telephoto side. SOLUTION: A camera system is provided with a photographic optical system including a focusing lens 2, a driving means 14 for driving the focusing lens, a control means 10 for performing deceleration control in accordance with a prescribed deceleration control pattern to control the driving means so as to move the focusing lens to a target position, and a state detection means 5 for detecting the state of the photographic optical system (for example, a focal length of the photographic optical system and a set value of an aperture), and the control means is made to control the deceleration control pattern in accordance with the detection state detected by the state detection means.
