PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for flocculant adding amount control which can measure the charge of colloid by a simple method to be able to immediately control the flocculant adding amount at the optimum level. SOLUTION: In the control method of the adding amount of a flocculant used for the solid-liquid separation of a suspension-containing solution, the flocculant is added for granulation, the charges of colloid in a separated liquid after separating granulated material are measured by color change generated by toluidine blue and a mixed solution prepared by adding potassium polyvinyl sulfate or methyl glycol chitosan to toluidine blue, and the adding amount of the flocculant is controlled so as to adjust the charge of the colloid to an aimed value. The measurement of the charge of the colloid can be carried out based on the color change generated when gradually increasing the amount or concentration of the mixed liquid of toluidine blue and potassium polyvinyl sulfate or methyl glycol chitosan.
