PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining 6-bromo-2-methylnaphthalene by bromination of 6-hydroxy-2-methylnaphthalene in a high yield without a trouble in separating and recovering operations from a reaction product. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing 6-bromo-2-methylnaphthalene comprises brominating 6-hydroxy-2-methylnaphthalene in the presence of a tertiary phosphine, bringing the resultant reaction product into contact with a hydrocarbon compound to separate a hydrocarbon layer (1), making the separation residue contact with a mixed solvent of a hydrocarbon compound and a lower alcohol, subsequently separating a hydrocarbon layer (2) and recovering 6-bromo-2-methylnaphthalene from the hydrocarbon layers (1) and (2).
