The present invention provides a game emulator program that allows a game to be played on a game machine using a display device of a second resolution that is lower than a first resolution for which the game is designed, while reproducing a game image that is close to the original. A hand-held game machine 1 selects a first decimation line from horizontal lines of a first background image of the first resolution. Then, the hand-held game machine 1 converts the first background image into a second background image of the second resolution by removing a line of the first background image corresponding to the first decimation line. The hand-held game machine 1 further determines one of two lines adjacent to the first decimation line to be a second decimation line so as to remove a line of the first background image corresponding to the second decimation line, thereby converting the first background image into a third background image of the second resolution. Then, a first game image obtained by overlaying an object image on the second background image and a second game image obtained by overlaying the object image on the third background image are displayed on the display device alternately by frames.
