OPTICAL MODULE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module which is high in manufacturing yield and has small insertion loss variation with temperature. SOLUTION: The module is provided with a plane optical waveguide chip 1 which is stored in a package and an optical fiber array 21 which is connected to the plane optical waveguide chip 1. The plane optical waveguide chip 1 is formed by providing a waveguide formation region 10 equipped with a circuit of an optical waveguide on a substrate 11 and a plurality of top plates 20 are arranged at at least one end side of the plane optical waveguide chip 1 on the waveguide formation region 1 along an end surface of the optical waveguide chip 1. On the waveguide formation region 10, the top plates 20 are bonded and fixed and the end surface of the plane optical waveguide chip 1 and end surfaces of the top plates 20 are polished in one body.
