PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device satisfactory in heating efficiency of a heat generation layer, less in leakage of a magnetic flux from an alternating magnetic field generating source, low in cost and small in size. SOLUTION: The fixing device has: a cylindrical heat roller 141 having a support 141a made of a ferromagnetic material, the heat generation layer 141b in the form of a thin film, that is made of a non-magnetic conductive material and formed in adjacent to the support 141b; and an IH coil 25 for rising the temperature of the heat roller 141. A high frequency current is caused to flow in the IH coil 25 to generate a high frequency magnetic field. An inductive eddy current is generated in the heat generation layer 141b, thereby raising the temperature of the heat roller 141 with Joule heat. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
