A master telephone set constituting a telephone control system includes status setting unit, status discrimination unit, incoming-call detection unit and notification unit, and master-set control unit for controlling the operations of the respective unit. When, in a state where the incoming-call detection unit has detected a new incoming call signal from any other line, it has been discriminated by the status discrimination unit that one line is in a talk holding status, the master-set control unit controls the notification unit so that the pertinent incoming call is notified by, at least, tone information. On the other hand, when it has been discriminated by the status discrimination unit in the same state that one line is in a talking status, the master-set control unit controls the notification unit so that the pertinent incoming call is notified by, at least, visible information.
