PURPOSE: A personal video recorder and a voice volume control method are provided to allow a user to easily adjust the voice volume even without using an external SPDIF decoder. CONSTITUTION: A personal video recorder comprises a voice channel display unit(11) for displaying the received voice channels; a voice channel selection button(12) for selecting the desired voice channel through the voice channel display unit; a digital voice volume adjustment button(13) for adjusting the voice volume of the selected voice channel; a digital voice volume control unit for detecting the voice channel information received from the audio signal input to the audio decoder, and controlling the display of the received voice channel, selection of a specific voice channel, and the voice volume of the selected voice channel in accordance with a user request; and a down mix unit for mixing the voice volumes of the voice channels output through the audio decoder and the voice volume of the specific voice channel output through the digital voice volume control unit, converting the mixed voice volume into an analog signal, and outputting the analog signal.
