PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for deciding a fixed point in a mobile communication system are provided to improve the performance of a system when converting a floating point into the fixed point by varying a bit truncation position of an input signal according to the change of the input signal and selecting an optimal fixed point always. CONSTITUTION: A saturation degree detecting unit(10) detects a saturation degree of an output signal of a despreader. A truncation position control unit(20) compares the detected saturation degree with a reference saturation degree, and generates a control command. A bit truncation unit(30) changes the position of a set fixed point according to the control command of the truncation position control unit(20).
