ADSORBENT FOR REMOVING SULFUR COMPOUND, PROCESS FOR PRODUCING HYDROGEN AND FUEL CELL SYSTEM

An adsorbent for removing sulfur compounds, which is capable of efficiently removing various sulfur compounds from a hydrocarbon fuel even at room temperature to a low concentration; a process for efficiently producing hydrogen that can be used in a fuel cell; and a fuel cell system wherein use is made of hydrogen obtained by the process. In particular, an adsorbent for removing sulfur compounds from a hydrocarbon fuel, comprising cerium oxide; a process for producing hydrogen for use in a fuel cell, comprising subjecting a hydrocarbon fuel to desulfurization treatment with the use of the above adsorbent so as to remove sulfur compounds and bringing the thus desulfurize d fuel into contact with a partial oxidation reforming catalyst, an autotherma l reforming catalyst or a steam reforming catalyst to thereby produce hydrogen for a fuel cell; and a fuel cell system wherein use is made of hydrogen obtained by this process.
