Method and device for stabilizing a vehicle

The method is for stabilizing a vehicle in which there exists at least one wheel having the tendency to spin. The method is capable of activating independently of the driver both a withdrawal of engine torque and braking actions. The braking actions are preformed on the at least one wheel having a tendency to spin. The engine torque is withdrawn only if the braking actions preformed do not stabilize the vehicle. Preferably the vehicle is an all wheel drive vehicle and the braking actions preformed are effective with equal intensity on both wheels of the drive axle in which the least one wheel having a tendency to spin is determined. This method and device is capable of improving traction and redistributing the engine torque (driving power) before being withdrawn. Preferably a differential locking function is used in a longitudinal direction to distribute the drive power between the drive axles.
