A HIERARCHICAL MENU GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE

The user interface provides access to a range of information and systems via a remote controller and TV screen. A controller has access to programme guide information from a number of sources. This includes data from high definition television, Internet sources and DVD units. Icons are provided to allow access to TV sources, Email, telephone and fax. The programme guide data from different sources is associated with an icon (905-950) and is colour coded. Selecting an icon displays programmes related to that icon e.g. cable. A colour bar (900) allows selections by colour where different types of programme, e.g. comedy, are associated by colour.
