A negative silver halide photographic element has a silver halide imaging layer containing light sensitive silver halide imaging emulsion, formed on a support. The imaging layer further comprises a precipitated non-imaging intentionally fogged fine grain emulsion and electron transfer agent releasing compound (ETARC) (I). A negative silver halide photographic element has a silver halide imaging layer containing light sensitive silver halide imaging emulsion, formed on a support. The imaging layer further comprises a precipitated non-imaging intentionally fogged fine grain emulsion and electron transfer agent releasing compound (ETARC) of formula (I): CAR1>-(L)n-ETA (I) CAR1>carrier moiety which is capable of releasing -(L)n-ETA on reaction with oxidized developing agent; L : divalent lithium group; n : 0, 1 or 2; and ETA : releasable electron transfer agent.
