Apparatus for providing air streams into the wings of an aircraft includes at least two main air ducts disposed in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the aircraft, a transverse duct connecting the main air ducts and connecting with air outlet means locatad in the aircraft wings on either side of the aircraft for discharging air therefrom, discharge ducts connected to each main air duct for discharging air therefrom, control valve means in each said main duct, closure valve means for each said discharge duct, all said valve means being so positioned and adapted to be controlled by air flowing forwardly through said main air duets that if no air flows in any one of said main air ducts such duct is closed and thereby causes simultaneous closing of the discharge duct of the other main duct or duets, air flowing in the other main duct or ducts being directed wholly to the transverse duct to maintain equality of air flow to the outlet means in the wings on either side of the aircraft. A pair of ducts 2, 3 (Fig. 1, not shown), are arranged longitudinally in the fuselage to connect with a transverse duct 12 in the wing 5 and further ducts 10, 10a which terminate in propulsion nozzles 4. Double-leaf flap valves 7, 9, spring loaded to the open position (Fig. 4, not shown) are mounted in ducts 2, 3 respectively and coupled by links 70, 90 with single-leaf flap valves in ducts 10, 10a. The duct 12 extends to blowing slots at the trailing edge 51 of the wing positioned adjacent the upper surfaces of flaps 52. If, in operation, the jet propulsion engine or compressor supplying compressed air to either of the ducts 2, 3 the appropriate valve, in the absence of air pressure, will open from the position shown in Fig. 4 for valve 9 to that shown for valve 7 with automatic operation of the valve in the appropriate duct 10, 10a to close that duct. By this means no air will flow to the nozzles 4 and all the air from the operative duct 2 or 3 will flow uniformly through both sides of the duct 12 to maintain balanced lateral trim.
