PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and an apparatus for driving the liquid crystal display are provided to reduce consumption power of the liquid crystal display and improve texture of the liquid crystal display. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display includes a pixel array, gate lines(121), data lines(171), pixel electrodes, and a switching element. The pixel array is constructed in a manner that red, blue, green and white pixels are arranged in the column direction and pixels having the same color are arranged in the row direction. The area of the white pixel is smaller than the areas of the other pixels. The gate lines transmit a scan signal or a gate signal to the pixels. The data lines intersect the gate lines and transmit a video signal of a data signal to the pixels. The pixel electrodes are respectively formed at the pixels and receive the data signal. The switching element formed at each of the pixels and includes a gate electrode(123) connected to the gate lines, a source electrode(173) connected to the data lines, and a drain electrode(175) connected to the pixel electrodes. |
