It is intended to provide a medicinal composition containing as the active ingredient a protein (an enzyme) having a monoacylglycerol acyltransferase (MGAT) activity and being useful as, for example, a lipid metabolism improving agent, a system of screening a candidate substance for an inhibitor or a promoter of the MGAT activity, etc. The medicinal composition contains, as the active ingredient, (a) a polypeptide having the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:1 and/or (b) a polypeptide having an amino acid sequence derived from the amino acid sequence in the above (a) by deletion, insertion, substitution or addition of one to several amino acids and having the MGAT activity, together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
