<p>An apparatus comprises a rotatable shaft (20) and first and second targets (32, 34) coupled to the rotatable shaft (20) so as to rotate therewith, a first probe (12) for transmitting a first transmission signal to the first target (32) and receiving a first response signal from the first target (32), and a second probe (14) for transmitting a second transmission signal to the second target (34) and receiving a second response signal from the second target (34). The apparatus further comprises a processor (10) operatively coupled to the first and second probes (12, 14) for determining a torsional displacement of the shaft based on the first and second response signals received by the first and second probes (12, 14), respectively.
