The harness (4, 14) for lifting the stretcher is intended to extend around the neck and shoulders, then downwards from the front side of the shoulders along the insides of the sleeves to the sleeve holes (18, 19) and/or downwards from the front side of the shoulders on the inside of the garment (3) to the pockets (11). The fasteners at the ends of the harness can be pulled out from the sleeve holes and/or pockets. A work garment with sleeves and pockets, especially for workers who carry out heavy lifting work, e.g. ambulance staff who have to lift patients on stretchers, has at least one harness with free ends secured to it. The harness is provided with fasteners, e.g. loops (12, 13, 22, 23) for attaching it to a stretcher. The harness is intended to extend around the neck and shoulders, then downwards from the front side of the shoulders along the insides of the sleeves to the sleeve holes (18, 19) and/or downwards from the front side of the shoulders on the inside of the garment to the pockets.
