PURPOSE: An optical recording medium, a recording method, a recording apparatus, and a reproducing apparatus are provided to effectively use a space of a linking area. CONSTITUTION: An optical recording medium has a linking area(220). Additional information(221) for a specific purpose is recorded in the linking area. The additional information is data that is obtained by encoding user data(211,231). A recording apparatus includes an encoder and a recording unit. The encoder encodes the user data. The recording unit records the data encoded by the encoder in the linking area of the optical recording medium. The encoder includes a turbo code decoder or an LDPC decoder. A reproducing apparatus includes a reading unit and a decoder. The reading unit reads the encoded data recorded in the linking area of the optical recording medium. The decoder decodes the read data.
