PURPOSE: A gas compressing device of a reciprocating compressor is provided to improve the structure of suction and discharge valves for preventing gas collision and the deterioration of compression efficiency caused by dead volume. CONSTITUTION: A gas compressing device of a reciprocating compressor includes a suction valve(143) mounted to a front end surface of a piston(142) for restraining gas inhaled via a suction channel(F) in the piston. A discharge valve assembly(170) is mounted to an end of a cylinder(141) inserted by the piston, and controls the discharge of compressed gas while opening and closing a compression space(P1) formed by the piston and the cylinder. The suction valve is fixed to the piston by a rivet(R) having a rounded head part. A discharge valve(172) of the discharge valve assembly has an insertion groove(172b) corresponding to the rounded head part of the rivet to insert the rivet to a pressure supporting surface(172a) contacting the suction valve.
