The mechanism for adjusting the inclination of the seat back relative to the seat part comprises two rigid frames pivoted to each other. One frame fixed to the back is movable and the other is fixed to the seat part. Two toothed inserts (11a,11c) are displaced between a position in which they immobilize the frames relative to each other and a retracted position. A circular ramp (41) pivots with the back and holds the control insert (11c) in its retracted position. The angular sum of the angular locking (A) and unlocking (B) segments of the ramp extend over more than 120o around the rotational axis (X). An Independent claim is included for a seat fitted with the articulation mechanism.
