The gaffer hook for eels has a shaft with a hooked end with points (11,12,17,18) threaded onto the shaft (14) using a sleeve (13). The end points (11,12) of the hook retain the eel and the inner points (17,18) prevent loss of the eel while landing it. The shaft is unthreaded to retract the movable points and allow removal of the eel.
