摘要 <p>PURPOSE: Provided is a water treatment technique that is capable of carrying out a high-performance water purifying treatment by efficiently removing synthetic organic compounds, such as surface active agent for detergent and components of agricultural chemicals from contaminated water of comparatively low load of BOD. CONSTITUTION: A utilizable filter medium formed by depositing a substrate having a specific utilizability by the target microorganisms on a porous base material, such as charcoal, is used, with which contaminated water to be treated is brought into contact under aerobic conditions. Using the utilizable filter medium in this manner enables specific microorganisms having high removal efficiency for synthetic organic contaminants to selectively utilize synthetic organic compounds. The water treatment apparatus comprises a pre-treatment tank(6) filled with a filter medium for removal of suspended solids and so forth; a denitrification tank(7) provided with an assimilation layer, filled with a material to be assimilated by bacteria, and an adsorbent layer, filled with an adsorbent capable of adsorbing ammonia nitrogen; a chitosan charcoal tank(10,12) filled with charcoal treated with chitosan; a dephosphorization tank(14) filled with an adsorbent capable of adsorbing phosphorous; and a finishing tank(15) filled with charcoal.</p>
