ALKALI-FREE GLASS AND PREPARATION METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: An alkali-free glass and its preparation method are provided, to obtain a transparent glass substrate for a liquid crystal display with excellent heat resistance and chemical resistance by using Sb2O3 and Cl2 without the use of toxic As2O3 as a fining agent. CONSTITUTION: The alkali-free glass comprises 40-70 wt% of SiO2; 6-25 wt% of Al2O3; 5-20 wt% of B2O3; 0-10 wt% of MgO; 0-15 wt% of CaO; 0-30 wt% of BaO; 0-10 wt% of SrO; 0-10 wt% of ZnO; and 0.05-3 wt% of Sb2O3 and 0.005-1 wt% of Cl2 as a fining agent. Preferably the content of BaO is 0-6.1 wt%. The method comprises the steps of preparing a glass batch comprising the composition; melting the glass batch; and molding the molten glass batch into a desired shape.
