METHOD FOR CLEAVING GLYCOL BY USING VANADIUM CATALYST

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaving a glycol compound in a good efficiency by using an oxidation catalyst having a low toxicity. SOLUTION: This method for cleaving the glycol compound expressed by formula (I) (wherein, R1to R4are an alkyl, an alkenyl, an alkynyl, an aryl or H, which may be the same or different) in an organic solvent under an oxygen or air atmosphere by bringing the glycol in contact with a vanadium compound catalyst to produce glycols expressed by formulae (II) and (III).
