PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a benzothiazine derivative or a salt thereof, having antimicrobial activities and useful as a medicine, a cosmetic, an agrochemical or the like; and to provide the antimicrobial agent. SOLUTION: The benzothiazine derivative is represented by general formula (1) (wherein, A1is hydrogen, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a carboxy group, an alkanoyl group or a cyano group; R1is a single bond or an alkylene group which may be substituted; R2is hydrogen, an alkyl group, an aralkyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group or a carboxy group, or may form a double bond with R3; R3is hydrogen, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkylthio group, an amino group, a hydrazino group which may have a substituent, or a cyclic amino group, or may form an imino group, an alkanoylimino group, an oxo group or a thioxo group with R4; R4is hydrogen, or forms a double bond between 3- and 4-positions of the thiazine ring with R5, or a nitrogen-containing heterocycle with R5; R5is hydrogen, an alkyl group or an aralkyl group; R6is hydrogen, an amino group, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group or a halogen; n is a number of 0-2; a broken line is a bond which can be a double bond).
