A control system for a paper sheet handler has at least one suction pick up (10, 11) fitted to a control block (4) containing a rotating control valve (8) and connected to a suction system. The rotating control valve comprises a fixed distribution system inside a control rotor with integral ducts. The rotor is driven by a gearing, e.g. drive discs, gear wheels, chain/belt drives with adjustments for the relative phases of the valve cycle. The rotor has control ducts on the inside and connecting with control ducts in the end blocks containing the rotor.
