PURPOSE: Highly efficient matting agents based on precipitated silicas and wax-coated precipitated silicas, their preparation, and their use in inks and paints are provided. CONSTITUTION: The precipitated silica is characterized that BET is 350-550 m¬2/g, DBP number is 320-400 g/100 g, d50 is 5-15μm, and tamped density is 20-90 g/L, wherein the particle size distribution (d90 - d10)/d50 is from 0.90 to 1.5, and wherein the gloss angle gloss values are 60 degree 15-25 and 85 degree 50-70. The paint or ink is characterized in that it includes the precipitated silica as a matting agent. The wax-coated precipitated silica is characterized that BET is 350-550 m¬2/g, DBP number is 320-400 g/100 g, d50 is 5-15μm, tamped density is 20-90 g/L, and carbon content is 2-18% by weight, wherein the particle size distribution (d90 - d10)/d50 is from 0.90 to 1.5, and wherein the gloss angle gloss values are 60 degree 15-25 and 85 degree 50-70. |
