An underpants type disposable diaper (1) has an excreted fluid absorbing section (3) extending around the front and rear trunk sections with a crotch covering region (8) at the center. The absorption section (3) folded toward the centerline (A-A) in the crotch covering region (8) is formed such that t he liquid-permeable cover sheet of the absorption section (3) extends from the inner surface (23) to the outer surface (24) of the absorption section (3) widthwise of the absorption section (3) and is folded back widthwise outward in the outer surface (24), the fold-back regions (22a) being joined to the inner surface of the sheet forming the crotch covering region (8).
