PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightweight and high-reliability color selection mechanism having high mechanical strength, and easy to machine without generating a cause of failure; and to provide a color cathode-ray tube equipped with the color selection mechanism. SOLUTION: This color selection mechanism 5<SB>1</SB>is so structured that a color selecting electrode thin plate 26 is stretched on a frame 27 comprising a pair of support members 11 and 12 and a pair of elasticity imparting members 13 and 14; the mechanism comprises cross-sectionally U-shaped members 17 of the elasticity imparting members and closing plates 18 for closing the openings thereof; the center parts with the closing plates 18 mounted are formed as hollow members; the other parts are formed with the cross-sectionally U-shaped members; each closing plate 18 is formed of a material having a coefficient of thermal expansion larger than that of the cross-sectionally U-shaped member; and the ratio L<SB>2</SB>/L<SB>1</SB>of the length L<SB>2</SB>of the closing plate 18 to the length L<SB>1</SB>of the cross-sectionally U-shaped member is set to 0.5-0.8.
