PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an IC socket having a body equipped with a base board whereto a pair of resilient contacting pieces are fixed and is structured so that contacts formed from the resilient contacting pieces extend through holes in a cover member approximately parallel and in the direction intersecting perpendicularly in such a way as widening forward and the IC reed of an IC package are pinched between the resilient contacting pieces. SOLUTION: The IC socket has a plurality of contacts of side face pinching type forming electric connection with the IC package mounted, the socket body whereto the contacts are fixed, and the cover member capable of moving up and down and opening and closing the cover member, wherein a pedestal to support the IC package and a locating table are provided on the cover member, and a projection on the pedestal protrudes from a hole in the locating table for locating the IC package. The resilient contacting pieces of the contacts are inserted through a hole in the cover member and pressed open by the up-and-down movement of the cover member to generate the opening and closing motions, and the opening and closing are made while the spacing of the contact tips is changed by the up-and-down movement of the cover member.
