<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing high purity, fine-grained boron suboxide powder, and to provide a method for producing a high density boron suboxide sintered compact. <P>SOLUTION: The boron suboxide powder is produced by a method comprising a stage where boron oxide powder and boron powder are mixed so that the ratio of oxygen is made higher than the atomic number ratio between boron and oxygen composing boron suboxide; a stage where the mixture is compacted, and is subjected to a solid phase reaction to produce boron suboxide; a stage where the product is pulverized with a pulverizer made of a material dissolvable in acid; a stage where the pulverized powder is washed with distilled water and acid to remove the remaining boron oxide and impurities; and a stage where drying is performed in a vacuum. The produced powder is heat-treated and is thereafter subjected to pressure sintering, so that the sintered compact having high density is obtained. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
