PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter for setting a chirp optimally and flexibly.
SOLUTION: Optical output from a Mach-Zehnder optical modulator 20 is partially branched at a branching section 21 before being fed to a wavelength detecting means 22. The wavelength detecting means 22 detects wavelength shift at the rising and falling parts of an optical signal and provides it to a detecting means 23. The detecting means 23 detects the sign and amount of chirp from the the amount of wavelength shift and provides them to a driving voltage control means 24. The driving voltage control means 24 compares the sign and amount of chirp thus detected with target sign and amount of chirp and then a driving voltage generating circuit 25 provides an appropriate driving voltage to the Mach-Zehnder optical modulator 20.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
