<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain effective image information inexpensively and accurately without lack as a radiation image of an object photographed, in a radiation image reading device for reading radiation image data from a radiation image conversion plate using a stimulable phosphor. <P>SOLUTION: The radiation image reading device 100 irradiates a radiation area D2 larger than a radiation image effective area D1 of the radiation image conversion plate 11 with exciting light, to make the area emit stimulating light for displaying the radiation image, and converts the stimulating light by a photoelectric converter 140 into the image information through A-D converter 150 (step S10).
