<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problems with the reflection type of the conventional liquid crystal display devices; visibility is poor because of weak light on darkening of the outside; in the case of a translucent type, the light from an EL (electroluminescence element) passes a reflection member and therefore, the light attenuates, deteriorating the illumination efficiency to a liquid crystal cell and making display hardly visible. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is provided with the liquid crystal cell 1, a light transmission plate 10 having a prism section on one surface, a light source 9, and a reflection member 6. The prism section is constituted by forming convexity constituting irregularity to a chevron shape in its section, by forming the apex of the convexity to an arcuate shape, and by forming the skirts thereof to an elliptic shape. As a result, the display of the cell 1 is made visible by external light when the outer periphery is bright and when the outer periphery darkens, the light from the light source 9 is cast through the plate 10 on the front to the reflection member 6 and therefore the light is less attenuated than heretofore and the display is made more easily visible. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
