PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-strength fiber rope composed of a polybenzazole fiber having excellent durability to cause little lowering of the strength after the exposure to a high-temperature and high humidity environment for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The polybenzazole fiber contains a basic organic compound especially selected from p-phenylenediamine, m-phenylenediamine and their mixture in the fiber in the form of monomer or a condensation product of the monomer and has a tensile strength retention of≥85% after exposing the fiber to an atmosphere of 80°C and 80% relative humidity for 700 hr. The use of the polybenzazole fiber can suppress the lowering of the strength of a rope after the exposure to a high-temperature and high humidity environment for a long period of time even if the rope is subjected to mechanical damage during the rope manufacturing process.
